Current Ballet Chorus member Kara Klein will succeed Heather McFadden as ballet dancer Meg Giry in the long-running Broadway hit The Phantom of the Opera. McFadden will play her final performance on June 16 and Klein will take over the role on June 18. Featuring music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Charles Hart and Richard Stilgoe, The Phantom of the Opera is currently the longest-running show on Broadway.
The Phantom of the Opera is the story of Christine Daaé, a chorus girl who becomes the lead at the Paris Opera House with help from her mysterious teacher, the Phantom. Klein joins current cast members Hugh Panaro (The Phantom), Trista Moldovan (Christine), Kyle Barisich (Raoul) and Cristin J. Hubbard (Madame Giry). The Phantom of the Opera originally opened January 26, 1988 at the Majestic Theatre and won seven 1988 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
Klein has appeared on Broadway in Billy Elliot. Her other credits include the Encores! production of Bye, Bye Birdie, Beauty and the Beast at North Shore Music Theatre and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
